English Part 4 - ACTION!

Today we are going to write an ACTION PARAGRAPH!

STONE AGE BOY - Hunt a Reindeer

THE SWEET SHOP GRANDPA - A giant begins to destroy Candy Cane Forest

The sections in blue show extra detail that I have added to my story to describe new characters and the action taking place.

____________________________________________________________________

Suddenly a boy ran up, shouting and pointing to the hills. At once

several people grabbed their spears and followed him. Om and I

followed them. Slowly, slowly, we crept forwards until we saw – a

reindeer! It was standing alone, munching the grass.
____________________________________________________________________

Suddenly a small child ran up, crying and rubbing his tummy. At

once, the blue creatures surrounded the wailing boy, “There’s a

Blerghuch down by the river and it is destroying Candy Cane Forest!”

The blue creatures grabbed a huge strawberry net and followed the

child to the river. The old man and Chaz followed them. Quickly,

quickly they darted forwards until they saw… the Blerghuch. The old

man had never seen anything like it! As wide as a building and as

tall as the sky, the Blerghuch was a giant. It stood tall, eclipsing the

light of the sun and plunging the Candy Kingdom into darkness. On

the ground, it’s feet were the size of double

beds and the ground shook as they rose and slammed to the earth,

crushing the Candy Cane Forest to a dusting of sherbet!

Maths - Tuesday 7th July

HILL TOP WINS VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY!

Adventure Story Writing - Part 3

Happy Monday! You have almost finished. In this section, your characters are going to explore the new world that you have created for them!

KEEP GOING! THE STORIES YOU HAVE SENT ARE LOOKING AMAZING! Think how good it is going to feel when you have written a full story! 😃

FOR EXAMPLE: BLACK - original story. GREEN - Miss Robinson's new story

Remember to send them through to year3@hilltop.doncaster.sch.uk

The parts highlighted in yellow are the parts that I have changed.

STONE AGE BOY

THE SWEET SHOP GRANDPA

The next morning, Om showed me round the camp. Everyone seemed

busy and had a job to do. Over the next few days, I saw so much

I’d never seen before. Om’s people had no knives and forks, no

plastic, no metal even. Everything they had was made from wood,

stone, animal skins or bones

________________________________________________________________________________

The next morning, Chaz gave the old man a tour around the Candy

Kingdom. All of the creatures that he saw seemed busy having

amazing adventures and fun in this magical, new world. Over the

next few days, he saw miraculous things that he had never seen

before. Chaz’s people had no vegetables, no fruit or any normal

foods! Everything they had was made from sweets, candy, chocolate

and gummies!

________________________________________________________________________________

One afternoon we went to the river. The little ones picked berries

and nuts, but Om and I watched the men fishing. They held their

pointed spears high and stood as still as trees. Then suddenly,

swoosh! Their spears dropped down like lightning and came up again

spiking wriggling silver fish.

________________________________________________________________________________

Late one day, they went to the chocolate truffle river. The smallest

of the creatures plucked gum drops from the lollipop trees but Chaz

and the old man watched the more experienced creatures catching

butter(scotch)flies in nets made of strawberry laces. They held their

strawberry nets high and silent in the air as they stood as still as

frozen popsicles. The suddenly, swoosh! Their nets dropped down and

were quickly filled with dozens of fluttering, toffee-coloured insects

Science - Plant Quiz 1

Hi year 3,

I thought we could finish our learning on plants by testing your knowledge with a quiz. Here is a reminder about some of the things you have learnt about plants:

1. What they need to grow.
2. How they grow.
3. Where they grow.
4. The different parts of a plant.
5. What the parts do.
6. About seeds and pollen.

Here is the quiz. I will put the answers up in a few hours, so you can see how well you have done:

Mental Maths Monday - 6th July

Hi year 3,

Here is your arithmetic quiz for today. Here are some strategies for some of the tricky questions:

7. You will need to use the inverse operation to solve this one: 76 - 33
12. Remember we only subtract the numerator, not the denominator.
14. You could do half of 14 and then make it ten times bigger with a place holder.
16. This is another inverse operation question.

Good luck. I will put the answers on the blog later today.

Maths - Friday 3rd July

Hi year 3,

Welcome to our final lesson this week. This lesson moves away from 2 and 3D shape to look at telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Here is the video:

You are going to introduce your new character today 😃

STONE AGE BOY

THE SWEET SHOP GRANDPA

____________________________________________________________________

Then, to my relief I saw someone – a girl. She was about my age. But

she didn’t look like any of the girls I knew. And I don’t think I looked

like any of the boys she knew.

____________________________________________________________________

Then, to his relief, he saw someone… or rather… something – a strange

creature. He was only as tall as a dog and was covered from head

to toe in velvety, turquoise fur. It’s mouth was filled with chocolatey

delights, candy canes and brightly-coloured gummies that it munched

as it stared curiously at the old man.

____________________________________________________________________

She took me to meet her family – and what a family it was! They

looked very strange, but they were kind to me and gave me some

stew. I couldn’t understand anything they were saying, though I

worked out my new friend’s name was Om. Then I must have fallen

asleep.

____________________________________________________________________

The creature took the old man to meet it’s family – and what a

family it was! They all had the same velvety fur, sharpened claws,

pointed teeth but their eyes were kind and gentle. They spoke a

beautiful. language that to the old man, sounded like birds signing

The old man learnt that his new friend’s name was Chaz. Then he

fell into a magical day dream.

Your Stories So Far

Toby and Ryder - Adventure Stories

WOW! I have been so blown away by Ryder and Toby's creativity with their stories! I am so proud of you both and I just had to share!

Feel free to leave Toby and Ryder a comment to let them know what you are enjoying about their stories so far.

Amazing work boys! These are going to be great adventure stories when they are finished!

From Miss Robinson

English - Writing an Adventure Story

Today, you are going to use the original text 'A Stone Age Boy' to write your own adventure story using your planning.

It is helpful to do this on a computer, but you can write it too. All you need to do is read the original story out loud then changed little bits at a time.

FOR EXAMPLE: BLACK - original story. GREEN - Miss Robinson's new story

The parts highlighted in yellow are the parts that I have changed.

STONE AGE BOY

THE SWEET SHOP GRANDPA

An amazing thing once happened to me. I was wandering in the

woods when I tripped and found myself falling down, down, down.
______________________________________________________________________

An incredible thing once happened to an old, grumpy, sweet shop

owner. He was working late in his ancient, desolate sweet shop one

night when suddenly he was sucked into a jar of peppermint swirls

and found himself spinning round, round, round!
______________________________________________________________________

When I woke up, I was in a cold, dark place. I could see daylight in

the distance and I stumbled towards it. Outside, everything was

different. I realised I was lost. Completely lost. So I walked and

walked and walked…
______________________________________________________________________

When his eyes finally opened, he was in a bright, colourful world.

He could see pink, candyfloss-like clouds in the distance and so he

rose, and limped towards them. Before him, everything was strange

and different. He realised that we was lost. Completely lost. So he

walked and stumbled and shuffled through this new world

Just work on these two opening paragraphs today! I can't wait to read them 😃
