Science
RECAP: During the last science lesson, you explained what a plant needs to survive. Can you remember what a plant needs? Have a look at your poster if you need a little reminder!
We know that all plants need:
- Air
- Nutrients from the soil
- Water
- Sunlight
- Space to grow
Today we are going to look at how the needs of plants may be different.
Although all plants need the things above, some plants need them in different amounts. For example, some plants need plenty of sunlight, whereas other plants might be able to survive with only a small amount of sunlight.
TASK 1: Complete the table below. You will have to research whether the plant needs a lot of sunlight or only a little sunlight.
TASK 2: Complete the table below. You will need to research whether the plant needs a lot of water or only a little amount of water.
Challenge 1: Research some more plants and trees and find out what they need. Add these to your tables too!
Challenge 2: We now know that different plants need things in different amounts. But do you know why? Every plant is different! Using the internet, choose a plant and research why.
Use these sentence stems to find out why a plant needs more or less of a certain thing:
- "Why do _________ need lots of water to survive?"
- "Why can ____________ survive with a small amount of sunlight?"
- "How do __________ survive with a small amount of water?"
- "Why do __________ need a lot of sunlight to survive?"
As always, we would love to see your learning!
