04.05.20 Eng Day 30 Letter Writing

English

This week in English we are going to write a letter! To give our writing a purpose, we thought that you could write a letter to the NHS (all of the doctors and nurses) to say thank you for all of their hard work. You don’t have to write to the NHS, if you can think of somebody else that you would like to thank.

Day 1: To give my letter a purpose.

Starter: Take a minute to think about a letter. Have you ever sent a letter? Have you ever received a letter? What do they look like? What do they include?

TASK 1: Today you need to decide who you are writing your letter to. It might be:

  • The NHS
  • Supermarket workers
  • Postman / Delivery person
  • Bin men
  • The Local Authority or The Government
  • Police / Firemen

TASK 2: Now you have chosen who you are writing to, you need to decide why you are thanking them! Bullet point some ideas stating why you would like to say thank you.

E.g. I am thanking The NHS because:

  • They are keeping me and my family safe
  • They continue to work every day whilst most people are safe at home
  • They have saved many lives
  • They work every hour of the day
