Securing Skills

Today we would like you to practise ordering numbers in descending order.

Remember, look at the place value to order. 

EXAMPLE 1

450     643    231   354

1.    Use the largest place value first (these are all three digit numbers so look at the hundreds column)

450       643    231   354            643   450   354   231

This example was simple because each number had a different hundreds value.

EXAMPLE 2

277    243    217   241

This example is trickier because all of the numbers are in the 200’s.

1.    Look at the hundreds (all the same)

2.  Look at the tens (70, 40, 10, 40)

3.  Look at the ones (3, 1)
